Casino Royale With Cheese

Hey out there!

I hope all is going well.

Just taking a few minutes to check in.

It was an action-packed weekend...Well Saturday was anyway...

A few pals and I went to see the new Bond film, Casino Royale, which was pretty good overall. Though there were flaws, I rather enjoyed it. Daniel Craig is the good looking rebel who plays by his own rules Bond. He's more of a bad boy tough guy than the Bond we've been presented in recent years. Not as suave, but pretty cool. There's a bit of a Steve McQueen quality to this Craig fellow that is sure to appeal to both men and women alike.

Daniel Craig

There were some good action sequences and I liked it a lot more than any of the Pierce Brosnan films...Anyway, I'm sure you'll be hearing a lot about this movie these days and if you're a Bond fan, you shouldn't be disappointed...

So after the movie, we hit the Mandarin for some buffet action. Buffets are always interesting and you'll be sure to find a lot of folks possessing no awareness of their surroundings. Like moving obstacles, diverting precious oxygen and massive quantities of food that could be better used, I'm sure...But that's another story...

We got to my place after eating more than our fill and got ready for the Ultimate Fighting Championship event. There were two title matches. Tim Sylvia successfully defended his heavyweight belt against Jeff Monson and Georges St. Pierre (GSP) beat the arrogant, but tough, Matt Hughes. I like GSP 'cause he seems like a super nice guy who happens to be a Canadian...and a great fighter. So when the crowd began to chant "USA! USA!" I gotta tell you that it irritated me and I wanted GSP to win even more. If they were chanting for Hughes, that's cool...but they were chanting against a guy because he's from another land...I'm sure most of the chanters can't even spell xenophobic...So anyway...GSP handed Hughes a pretty good beating, complete with Superman Punch and kick to the head, finishing him with a series of punches when he went down. GSP! GSP! (For those of you who care, or are keeping track, two non-Americans currently hold titles in the UFC)...

There's not too much simian news to report, other than I recently purchased some Gorilla Glue which alleges to be "THE TOUGHEST GLUE ON PLANET EARTH"...Though I would like to believe this on blind faith alone, I am the pudding-tasting type and must see for myself. I'll be sure to let you know how it works...

Our little Achilles continues to dazzle us with his photogenic range...Though he is still remarkably adorable, as my pal Kimber has stated, he can still bring the fierce when required. I wouldn't say he's a predator posing as a house pet...but he really is...This was his response to my best Gunnery Sergeant Hartman impression of "Let me see your war face!"

Being a Gene Simmons fan from back in the day, I was quite impressed...and proud.

I hope you had a great weekend!

Take care out there!

Your Pal,

Zambo.

P.S.
Just in case...

The title of this post makes reference to the great exchange in Pulp Fiction in which it is mentioned that the Quarter Pounder with cheese is known as the "Royale with cheese" in Paris...Though there is no direct link to the film and cheese, I thought it was rather clever...But now, as I'm explaining myself, I suddenly feel a lot less clever...If you haven't seen Pulp Fiction yet, it's not too late. (It's actually about 12 years too late, but go see it and stop reading this crap)...

I'm not sure what to think about the new Beatles album, but I'm pretty sure I'll have it by week's end...I'll let you know...I saw the Cirque de Soleil segment on Leno and it was a bit too flower powery for my liking...Also, "The Word" is probably my least favourite Beatles song...and the new album is called "Love"...We'll see how ripped off I'll feel after this. (It should be noted that I've seen a few Ashton Kutcher films at the theater)...

Hey Zambo, I don't think you had to really explain the title of your post. It's like a joke or sex, if you don't get it then explaining it ain't gonna help you.
I also agree with your comment about how Americans will booo anyone from another country. That jingoistic bullshit is what really makes them unbearable. Especially when everyone knows that Canadians are the best, right?

I am not sure about Craig as Bond. My understanding is the movie is him before he is an agent, which would explain the lack of charm. But the smooth Bond is something I want to see.

None of those glues ever work for me, I have given up hope in finding one that does.

I think the title was clever and I got it right away. Don't you just love when you come up with something clever?

As far as being clever with movie references, all I've gotta say is, "How's that workin' out for ya?" Heh heh heh

Craig was a good Bond, it's about time they did something new with the series. He added some "layers" to the "cake", to carry the movie reference conceit one step further. Deep stuff, huh? And Eva Green... rowwrr... mama like. A lot. Yes he does, doesn't he, Precious?

Aaaight, I gots ta get my sleep on...

I didn't like Pulp Fiction, but I get the joke. :)

I want to get some Gorilla Shelves for our garage. Toughest shelves you will find anywhere, they claim!

(No, I am not kidding!)

I'll wait until the new Bond movie joins the rank with the others when they have the "James Bond Marathons" on TBS!

Ashton Kutcher films? You poor soul! (Still wondering how large the safe was that fell ten stories and struck Demi MOore in the head...)

I passed the Bond movie and went to see Happy Feet. It was a good choice. It's Oscar-bound. Robin Williams, Hugh Jackman, Nicole Kidman, Eliaj Wood... The late Steve Irwin is even in it.

It's so good, you'll leave the theatre dancing.

Besides, there's only James Bond for me, that sexy Scottish guy Sean Connery.

I can appreciate your feeling of being ripped off at Ashton Kutcher movies...there's no use for hte guy. Achilles is super-cute! You must be having fun with your new buddy.

(a) I understood the "with cheese" bit, which is a breakthrough for me, because pop references almost always zoom over my head. Very exciting!

(b) I thought Daniel Craig made a superb Bond, and I can't wait to see more of him in a tuxedo. So cold, so clinical, and so much more like the Bond from the books. His ears are big, but I'm willing to forgive that -- all the better to hear the bad guys sneaking up on him.

(c) Your adorable cat seems capable of turning on the terrifying; I wager that, with that face, the wee beastie is able to induce nightmares in anyone sleeping on your sofa.

If you're in the mood for a really bad movie, email me your address and I'll send you a DVD of Artie Lange's "Beer League". I just got it yesterday and I'm not sure if the stench will make it through customs. I am a man of my word, however, so you're welcome to be the judge.

PS: Is it me or does nothing say "I don't know how to pull out" like a ticket stub for "Happy Feet" in your pocket?

Hey Zambo! Been awhile, but glad to know you're still rocking the blog world.
I haven't seen the Bond film yet, but will now due to your riveting review. I like the new guy, though, MUCH better than Brosnon.

Your cat really has a career in modeling. I'm sure there are some cat modeling agencies out there just waiting for a mug like that.
